Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my trash compactor serviced?
Preventive maintenance should be done every 6 months and oil changes every year.
Why does my compactor run all the time?
Often times, this is explained by the photo eye or reflector being dirty or out of alignment. Cleaning with a damp cloth may fix the issue or adjusting the photo eye to see all 3 lights (red, yellow and green) to go back to auto mode.
Why is my DP-500 compactor not running automatically?
There are four things which disable the automatic operation of a DP-500 Compactor, necessitating a reset:
- Opening the access doors during operation
- Using the Emergency Stop button
- Cutting off electrical power to the compactor
- Disabling and re-enabling the key slot on the compactor
To reset the system, press and hold the black start button for approximately 45 seconds to have the compactor engage to go through a full cycle. Once it runs through the full cycle, the red beacon light should flash on top of the control panel, placing the compactor into auto mode again.
Does my dumpster need to be connected for the compactor to run?
It does not, but it is much safer to run the compactor while the dumpster is on, and we therefore recommend that you keep it connected.
